This is one we are thinking through, too. Before Bereket (age 5.5) came home 5 months ago, I assumed we would have him circumcised. However, after talking with medical types, and learning that about 50% of boys in our area (near Boulder, Colorado) are not circumcised, we are re-thinking. I guess at this point, our current plan is to leave Bereket uncircumcised, and if he decides he wants to do it at some point, he can....I mean, it will hurt either way, right? Also, one thing that a doctor said--I don't even think she is a Christian--is that, now that we have learned that circumcision isn't medically necessary, many more families are opting to leave their boys--bio-born and adopted--as God made them. This is an interesting topic for me!
I vote no.
Male nor female.
Not. We did not circumcise our now 21 year old son because I just think it's mean. We lived in New York state at the time, and the circumcision rate at the hospital our son was born at was also about 50-50. There are some minor medical pros to circumcision, but they are truly minor. I have never regretted not circumcising my son, nor has my son ever had a problem with it. He grew up "looking different than Daddy" and was not traumatized. I say leave well enough alone.
I just wanted to say.. I voted.. and I didn't vote "yes" but it shows up as only 1 person voting & it says yes. I voted if only medically necessary. Do lots of homework on this one & talk to the doctor. There are strong opinions both ways but it's becoming less popular than in the past it seems.
Good luck!
3 boys, home birth, no circ. They are 22, 20 and 17, and no problems. Go with your heart....
I would like to vote...but I must say that I don't know enough on the topic. I have known families who have and families who haven't. I even knew a boy who had it done at about 8 yrs old...it was miserable to see how much pain he was in. But I'd be interested in hearing some facts from those of you that do know more about it.
Well after a botched circ on our first born son, we have not done another one since. And will never again...
I vote NO! My three bio aren't, but Gabe, my adopted son, was as a baby I guess.
