Can You Tell Me What This Is?

Xia has pus filled pimple looking things on part of her scalp. I did box braids a couple of days ago, but just now noticed. Before the box braids she had "free" hair for two weeks. Her hair has been incredibly dry lately-So I oiled it really good before I braided her hair. Do you think it's an infection or did I use too much oil to compensate for the dryness. Her head seems itchy as well.....

Any advice?

perhaps not since it's on the scalp...but we just had to treat Kora for impetigo on her face. Google it and see if it matches her spots.
In case you didn't know, I'm a Google Doctor and have saved numerous lives this way....

Here's the response I got on a yahoo group. If anyone else has a kiddo this has happened to.

The pimples are likely from the hair on the scalp being pulled too tight. In some cases, it could actually be the hair roots being pulled to the surface of the scalp. Remove the braids and wash and condition the hair gently.

If you choose to braid again, try and be a little looser in those areas.

Yep braided to tight. The hair isn't trained yet to be in that style and it really causes the scalp to "work". You can put some Wonder 8 oil on it to loosen it up. Oil it every night and put her a silkie hat on it. I hate those little pus bumps and now I have "braid - fear" because its really no way NOT to braid it to tight and I get this little shivering feeling shortly after the hair is braided. Of course being the hyperchondriac (sp) that I am, I think it has some damaging affect on my brain! (not scientific at all), but I love braids!!!!

we have never once braided addie's hair, and she had those for awhile after she came home. the docs told me that it was likely just a form of dandruff, sortof like cradlecap (you know how cradlecap gets...oily and yucky like that? but...i guess it can also be pus filled pimple-ish, too. they told me to use a good dandruff shampoo, but i didn't want to dry her hair out, so i've just been using carol's daughter products, and it went away eventually. I use the shampoo, tui hair smoothy (I let that sit for a good 10 minutes or more) and the leave in conditioner, or hair milk.
(one of them...i think maybe the shampoo, has a natural antifungal in it.)hope that helps!

My girls get these occasionally I have found that greasing the scalp often and not pulling too tight, making smaller braids helps.
